Leith Walk & Constitution Street Traders’ Association is encouraging all traders to let tie and the City of Edinburgh Council know about any potential breaches of the Code of Construction Practice, or indeed any matters which affect you during the Tram Construction Works.
Use the following list as a guide:

Working Hours (point 3 of the Code of Construction Practice)
Monday – Friday    0700-1900
Saturday        0800-1300
Sunday or evening work will be notified seven days in advance.

Site Housekeeping (point 4.1 of the Code of Construction Practice)
All working areas will be kept clean and tidy.
All working areas are non-smoking.
Waste which might be spread by the wind to be stored in enclosed containers.

Clearance of Site on Completion (point 4.7 of the Code of Construction Practice)
Working areas will be cleared and cleaned when no longer required to carry out works.

Parking of Construction Vehicles (point 5.3 of the Code of Construction Practice)
Site and construction vehicles should not be parked outside work areas unless delivering / removing materials. Any vehicle associated with the tram roadworks should NOT be using a normal loading or parking space. Using cones or plastic barriers around a vehicle does not constitute a work-site (if parked for more than 1 hour).

Lorry Movements and Access (point 5.7 of the Code of Construction Practice)
Lorries moving loads / plant / materials / spoil should limit the use of public roads, and should not remain stationary on the road unnecessarily before entering a work site.

Mud on Roads / Pavements (point 5.8 of the Code of Construction Practice)
Mud created around work sites should be removed.

Road Closures and Access to Frontages (point 5.10 of the Code of Construction Practice)
Affected owners / occupiers will be informed of works, road closures and alternative access routes in writing and by local signs, one calendar month prior to work starting. Closures will only be made immediately before required, works carried out continuously and efficiently and re-opened as quickly as possible.

Dust and Air Pollution (point 8 of the Code of Construction Practice)
Stock-piles of dusty materials should be damped down during dry weather.
Soiling of windows / ledges by dust-generating works will be cleaned (at least weekly) by the Contractor.
Engines of parked vehicles will be switched off within two minutes of arriving.

This is only a summary of some key points from the Code of Construction Practice; all of the points are available at www.leithtraders.com/cocp.

All comments and complaints should be raised
with tie / City of Edinburgh Council using the contact details above.
